Brand Identity
Background
Located in one of Newark’s many stunning listed buildings, Grain @ No1 was a takeover of an established antiques shop and hosted a number of resident artists and makers from the local area across all four floors.
Brief
The brief was to build a more considered brand identity to promote the shop itself while also representing the collection of individual makers, artists and designers in residence.
Solution
The most effective solution for the logo was to base it on front signage, so there was a visual connection with the shop facade as people passed by. Simply refining the type and spacing to make it more balanced, then applying a colour palette taken from some of the interior decor, once again connecting the whole visual experience.
Further developing the brand identity, I created a series of patterns based around different types of grains, to represent each of the individual resident artists/makers coming together as a collection. This formed a more expressive and adaptable part of the visual language.
